Harvey Castro, MD, MBA, known as DR GPT™, is a board-certified emergency physician who still takes shifts, Advisor to the CEO of Phantom Space, and a healthcare AI keynote speaker, TEDx speaker and author. He helps hospital boards, health system executives, medical conferences and clinical teams make informed decisions about AI, with keynotes in English, Spanish or a mix of both.
His three signature keynotes are built for rooms that have to decide. Accountable Intelligence: Who decides, and who answers helps boards and executive teams decide which decisions AI can carry, which stay with clinicians, and who answers when a model is wrong. AI That Survives the Workflow: From demo to durable adoption walks health system leaders through workflow, trust, safety, governance, incentives and measurement, leaving them with the six factors that decide whether an AI project lives past the pilot. SAFE AI: A physician-led framework, drawn from his TEDxBabsonCollege talk, gives clinicians a way to weigh risk, involve clinicians, protect patients, monitor performance and keep a human in charge as AI scales.
With more than two decades of experience as a physician and entrepreneur, Harvey has put AI where the stakes are real, from the emergency department to monitoring astronaut health where there is no doctor. He has delivered five TEDx talks, including TEDxBabsonCollege, TEDxPurdueU and TEDxSouthlake, and is the author of books on healthcare AI and physician leadership, including work on ChatGPT in healthcare and AI in emergency medicine. He earned his MD at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and a Physician Executive MBA from the University of Tennessee, and is based in Dallas, Texas.
His core question: what stays human when AI gets good.
